Hip Diapers for One Hip World

Check out this awesome mama's page and charity diaper auctions!  I know this mama through an online community that we both visit regularly and her daughter was born with hip displaysia.  There are some heart-wrenching photos of her tiny baby girl in a harness to help her hips and her daughter spent a good amount of time in a cast after having hip surgery.  And by cast I mean a cast that covered both legs and her body up nearly to her chest.  Check out the blog here and the listings on Hyena Cart here.  There are some beautiful cloth diapers donated by some amazing WAHM (work-at-home-mom) diaper makers.  All money raised will be donated to the International Hip Displaysia Institute. Hip Displaysia affects 1/20 full term infants and 2-3/1000 babies require treatment. Go check out the blog and the auctions on Hyena Cart!

Mother's Day

Yesterday was my first official Mother's Day.  We knew that I was pregnant last year but hadn't really told anyone.  I had a wonderful weekend with Matt and Eleanor, just relaxing and spending time together.  My favorite kinds of days.  Here's an awesome photo that Matt took of me and Eleanor.  Thanks for making me a mom, Eleanor :)  And Matt, thanks for having a photography hobby ;)

4 month stats

Eleanor had her 4 month appointment yesterday.  Matt took her and hung out with her for the rest of the day afterwards.  She was sort of fussy after her shots, but nowhere near how fussy she was after her 2 month shots.  We were even getting some smiles from her last night.  Plus, Eleanor was rockin' some super cool band-aids!

At her appointment Eleanor weighed 14.95 pounds (74th percentile) and was 24.5 inches long (54th percentile).  She is officially over 2 feet tall!  Her appointment went well and we have a healthy little girl on our hands, minus her whole reflux issue that we are more than ready to be finished dealing with.

At 4 months old Eleanor...

-is reaching for toys!  She has started doing this thing where she spreads her arms as wide as they will go and brings them together forcefully in an attempt to grab something in front of her.  It's kind of hilarious.  She's also just reaching out to touch things.

-discovered this past Monday how to make her jumperoo/exersaucer thing bounce.  She figured it out at school and her teachers sent me a video of her bouncing away.  The look on her face when I put her in the one at home and she realized it did the same thing was amazing.  It was definitely the look of pure joy.

-loves to have her hands touching each other!  Lots of times her hands are clasped in front of her as she just watches what is going on.

-talks up a storm!  She loves to have conversations with people.  She is most talkative in the morning, in the car, and in the evening before bed.  But she talks all.day.long.  It's awesome.  A new baby started at daycare this past week who is just a few days older than Eleanor.  Apparently Eleanor and the other little girl had a very long conversation with each other :)

-is starting to sit up!  She can sit for just a few seconds before she falls over, but it's a start!

-puts everything in her mouth.  Her hands, her fingers, toys, burp clothes...anything she can get her hands on.  Sometimes she'll even manage to get her thumb in her mouth while she's got a toy in there too.  She's pretty determined about that thumb :)
-eats 5 bottles at day, each with 4oz of formula and 2 tbsp of rice cereal.  We are adding the cereal per the doctor's recommendation after Eleanor ended up in the hospital about a month ago due to her reflux.  It's been normal for her to briefly gasp for breath due to her reflux, but she had a long episode at daycare where she started to turn blue (side note: scariest phone call ever from the school nurse - but luckily Eleanor's daycare is in a school so they actually have a school nurse).  After an overnight hospital stay for observation, including an echocardiogram and chest xray, which both came back normal, we were released.  But the doctor did have us start thickening Eleanor's formula in hopes that the thicker substance would stay in her stomach better rather than coming back up into her throat.  This seems to have helped some, along with a change in her reflux medicine.  Eleanor's pediatrician also referred us to a pulmonologist at the local children's hospital, who we saw this past Monday.  He didn't hear or see anything that led him to believe she had any breathing problems.  He prescribed another medicine for Eleanor to take on top of her reflux medicine.  This medicine is a pro-kinetic, so it keeps Eleanor's stomach moving a little more so there isn't liquid just sitting there waiting to come up.  We go back in September for a follow-up, but he wants us to try this new medicine for about 6 weeks or so.  He said by 6 months Eleanor's reflux should be better and by 8 months to a year it should be completely gone.  She just happens to have a really severe case of it.

Big grins!

Out for a walk in the Er.go carrier.  We love this carrier - including the nice little sunshade :)

Eleanor loves.loves.loves standing up.  It's one of her favorite things to do.

4 months old!

I'm a day late posting, but I took the photo yesterday.  Eleanor is getting so big!  I'll do a more detailed 4 month post after her 4 month appointment next Friday, but for now here's a photo of our sweet girl - about 5 seconds before she ripped that flower off her head :)
